Android Does Not Save Photos from Applications

If your Android does not save photos from MMS or messages in a messenger, you should check if there is some free space on the phone memory and make sure that you are trying to download a photo correctly.

Why Isn’t a Photo Saved on Android?

Some minor glitches may occur in Android operation which can be fixed by restarting the system. If after rebooting photos are not saved in the device memory, the reasons may be as follows:

Insufficient storage. Open “Storage” (Memory) in the settings and make sure there is enough space on your phone.

Troubles with access privilege. Rename the DCIM folder using any file manager. Another DCIM folder will appear in the system. If photos start being saved, just transfer files from the old directory to the new one.

Camera related failures. Start the “Camera” application, open its settings and select “Restore default” or “Reset”. If photos taken with the camera are not saved to the memory card, check the storage path selected in the settings. This option is not available on all models.

Another method that may work is clearing the cache and wiping data. Find “Camera” in the “Applications” section in Android settings and tap “Wipe data” and “Clear cache” successively.

If photos are saved to the specified folder but are not displayed in the gallery, clear the cache for the “Gallery” application. If the standard software still does not work, install a third party gallery from Play Market Google, for example, QuickPic

In order to avoid any problems when downloading pictures you have received, let us see how to save photos from messengers, social networks and MMS. For example, if a photo has been received as an MMS attachment, the procedure is as follows:

    Go to “Messages”.
Find MMS. Tap it and hold down until the menu appears.
Select “Copy attachment to SD card”.

If you receive an MMS with photos, install Save MMS. It is a free application that scans the folder with messages and displays a list of all attachments. All you have to do is select the item you need and save it.

If a message containing a photo has been received in WhatsApp, Viber or Telegram, you do not have to save it. It will be stored by default in the messenger directory after opening. If you want files received via WhatsApp to be accessible in the gallery:

Open the settings and go to “Data”.
In the “Autoloading media” tap “Mobile network” and check “Photo”.

Besides, you can just tap the photo in a conversation in order to open it and then open a side menu and select “Save to gallery”. The method can also be used in Viber and Telegram. You do not have to store photos in the memory and can leave them in the album by adding to your account in the social network.

If you need to download a photo from Instagram, you will have to take a screenshot of the picture you need or use the InstaSave application. Note that InstaSave does not work in private accounts so the screenshot is the only option. There are no other ways to download a photo from Instagram.
